Jim and Sherri Melichar operate Melichar Broad Acres, a 640-cow dairy farm in Port Washington, WI.
When it came time to replace their old "brand x" horizontal mixer, they contacted their local Patz Dealer, C.F. Heckmann Company, Inc., in Newton, WI. An on-farm demo of a Patz Vertical Mixer resulted in the Melichars purchasing a 620 cubic foot Patz Model 800 Twin Screw Vertical Mixer.
"Our Patz vertical mixer can feed 640 cows in about two hours," states Jim. This is a big time savings since they used to spend four hours a week just grinding hay to put into their old mixer.
"Now we only have to handle the hay once because the Patz mixer easily precesses the large square bales," added Jeff Smith who handles the mixing and feeding at Melichar Broad Acres.
