Ray Brands and his father Casey operate Deer Valley Farms in Ferrisburg, VT. Casey started the farm in 1965 and now he and Ray milk 450 Holsteins with a 25,730 lb herd average and 864 butterfat.
Deer Valley Farms use both square and round straw and hay bales in their ration. After purchasing a 615 cubic foot Patz Model 1100 Vertical Mixer, they eliminated the need to preprocess the large square bales in a chopper prior to mixing, saving time and fuel.
“We save a lot of time now with our Patz vertical mixer,” said Ray. “It takes just one stop at the mixer to process big square bales instead of chopping them first.”
